Position Overview
WFP Somalia Country Office is looking for a Digital Assistance Services (DAS) Officer to be based at the country office in Mogadishu, Somalia. The Officer will deliver standard software and hardware support services, as well as monitoring and maintaining a wide range of information sources, to contribute to the effective delivery of TEC Digital Transfer Services.
As part of the TEC team, the DAS Officer will report to the Head of TEC
What will you do?
• Install and configure new computer hardware for improving and upgrading system performance; support any technology upgrades as required.
• Lead and motivate a small team, monitoring performance, providing coaching, training and guidance to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
• Development of technical skills and knowledge and keeping Somalia Country office aware of industry development.
• Carry out system and equipment maintenance tasks, such as back-up system data and system protection, to ensure they are running effectively and enable easy and efficient use ensuring compliance.
• Receive and inspect all incoming assets TEC assets to support Programme implementation and report discrepancies to senior colleagues and stakeholder units such as Programme, Logistics, Administration, Finance and Procurement.
• Perform basic beta testing and support the rollout of new versions of centrally supported systems to ensure the software is operational for WFP staff.
• Ensure information is up to date and accurate within inventories, databases, websites, and archives to support senior officers in managing these systems.
• With direction from senior colleagues, collate information to be included in standard material such as training documentation and web content, to contribute to the availability of information about services and products.
• Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required to provide support in enabling emergency food assistance needs to be met.
• Respond to queries from users, understand and resolve issues, provide advice and ensure Technology (TEC) policies, procedures, systems and tools are correctly applied to support them.
• Lead the capacity building of national TEC staff and/or review training programmes aimed at developing skills/knowledge.
• Lead TEC’s role in decentralizing corporate platforms and systems and provide second-level support to staff and partners in the Area Offices.
• Manage requests and approvals for programme support assets and consumables ensuring functionality and accountability.
• Frequent travel from the Country Office to field locations, promoting a decentralized model.
• Ensure all equipment loans to partners and traders are recorded in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provide technical input in data sharing agreements for the Country Office.
• Perform other TEC-related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Do you meet the minimum requirements? Do you have:-
• Advanced university (master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or any science/logic-related discipline.
• A minimum of 6 year’s experience in academic or professional experience in the implementation of computer information systems or related areas.
Knowledge & skills
• Advanced training and/or experience in standard Beneficiary Management Systems.
• General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures is an added advantage.
Language
• International Professional: Fluency (proficiency/level C) in the English language.
