Essential job functions:

  • Offer comprehensive communication support across all DBG programs, ensuring that our advocacy and awareness efforts are effectively communicated to both internal and external audiences.
  • Lead the development and dissemination of engaging and informative content, including producing and editing videos, crafting compelling human interest stories, designing inaugural newsletters, and preparing donor reports, proposals, factsheets, and infographics. You will ensure that all materials are of high quality, reflect DBG’s values, and are distributed through appropriate media and network channels to reach donors and target groups effectively.
  • Oversee the review and enhancement of the DBG website, ensuring it serves as a dynamic and informative hub for stakeholders.
  • Establish and implement protocols for managing DBG’s presence across various media platforms, enhancing our digital footprint and ensuring consistent, impactful engagement with our audience.

Job Description

  • Develop a comprehensive communication action plan aimed at boosting DBG’s visibility. Utilize a range of communication and advocacy tools and materials to effectively convey our mission and impact to a wider audience.
  • Develop quality content for DBG inaugural newsletter,
  • Review and revamp contents of DBG website to increase visibility of program delivery,
  • Produce high-quality promotional materials for use across social media and in our newsletter publications, enhancing DBG’s outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Ensure weekly and monthly updates of all platforms;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of DBG’s communication campaigns, analyzing their success and sharing insights, results, and lessons learned with the team to continuously improve our strategies;
  • Produce high-quality promotional materials for use across social media and in our newsletter publications, enhancing DBG’s outreach and engagement efforts;
  • Lead the development of impactful documentaries that narrate DBG’s programs and achievements, ensuring content is compelling and aligns with our core messages;
  • Ensure the highest quality of videography for all DBG content, adhering to a minimum standard of HD 1920×1080 or better, and ensuring all videos meet DBG’s format specifications for various platforms;
  • Work with the highest professional ethical standards and in keeping with DBG’s core messages;
  • Undertake any other related tasks as directed by the Program Director.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications and requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in journalism, communications, or closely related fields.
  • A solid experience in the areas of strategic communications, marketing, journalism, digital communication, management, and planning.
  • Fluency in English and Somali language is required.
  • Excellent writing, editorial and presentation skills.
  • Excellent record of accomplishment in implementing strategic communication plan, including engaging with media and designing and executing advocacy campaigns. Good knowledge of communication principles. Knowledge of multimedia to develop a range of communication and information products. Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Previous communications experience with NGOs/INGO/UN or similar is an asset.

  • Possesses a strong aptitude for working collaboratively within teams, displaying flexibility and adaptability in diverse settings;
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, capable to establish and maintain effective working relations with different stakeholders;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Somali & English;
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise style.
  • Strong experience in graphic design, photographs, and videography to create visual content for communication purposes.
  • Proficient in using communication tools, software, and platforms, including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management tools.
